Mark A. Mittler, M.D., F.A.C.S., F.A.A.P
Mark A. Mittler, M.D., A native of Long Island, Dr. Mark A. Mittler completed his undergraduate and medical education at the University of Rochester. He received his neurosurgical training at Brown University/Rhode Island Hospital. After his chief residency at Hasbro Children's Hospital in Rhode Island, Dr. Mittler joined the attending neurosurgical staff at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. Dr. Mittler "returned home" in 1999 to join Long Island Neurosurgical Associates.
Dr. Mittler is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and the American Board of Pediatric Neurological Surgery. He is a member of the Pediatric Section of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and Congress of Neurological Surgeons. He is one of 150 members of the American Society of Pediatric Neurosurgeons.
Dr. Mittler is co-chief of the division of pediatric neurosurgery in the North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System and cares for children on both campuses of Schneider Children's Hospital. He remains available for consultation at other regional hospitals on Long Island. Dr. Mittler and colleagues at Schneider Children Hospital have created a multidisciplinary comprehensive program for pediatric brain and spinal cord tumors. In addition to surgical neuro-oncology, Dr. Mittler's professional interests include pediatric vascular malformations, craniosynostosis, hydrocephalus, and traumatic brain injury. He has extensive experience with minimally invasive techniques including microneurosurgery, neuroendoscopy, and stereotactic radiosurgery. He has published numerous articles and book chapters related to neurosurgical issues of childhood. Given his extensive experience with congenital disorders, Dr. Mittler is often consulted on these disorders when they occur in adulthood as well.
Dr. Mittler is a dynamic and welcomed lecturer to both medical professionals and non-medical audiences. He serves on the New York State Medical Society Committee on Injury Prevention and is often heard promoting safety initiatives. He can be reached at 516-354-3401.
